Nowra

Nowra is a city in the Australian state of New South Wales and is located about 160 kilometers south of Sydney on the Shoalhaven River . It is closely connected to the Bomaderry on the opposite bank of the river . Nowra-Bomaderry has about 28,000 inhabitants (as of 2011).

Nowra was founded in 1852. The city is the hub of the dairy industry in the surrounding region and the terminus of the railway line from the north.

In Nowra is the administrative headquarters of the local administrative area Shoalhaven City .

Ten kilometers to the southwest is the HMAS Albatross military airfield of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).

In February 2012, well-known documentary filmmakers and National Geographic employees Mike deGruy and Andrew Wight died in a helicopter crash near Nowra shortly after take-off . DeGruy, who had received several Emmys and BAFTAs for his achievements in the field of camera work , specialized in underwater documentaries and was involved as a submarine pilot in James Cameron's documentary "Last Mysteries of the Titanic" (2005). The 52-year-old Australian Andrew Wight was the author and producer of the 3-D thriller "Sanctum", which became the most successful film of 2010 at the Australian box office.
