The James Cook University , shortly JCU is a university in Townsville and Cairns , in the Australian state of Queensland .

James Cook University was founded in 1970; Namesake is James Cook . In addition to the two main locations, Townsville and Cairns, there are locations in Brisbane and Singapore as well as institutes in Mackay , Mount Isa , Thursday Island , Orpheus Island , Paluma and "Fletcherview" in the vicinity of Charters Towers .
