The Deakin University is a university in Melbourne , in the Australian state of Victoria .

Deakin University was founded in 1974, named after Alfred Deakin . Around 34,000 students study at Deakin University, 11,500 of them in part-time programs or distance learning. About 6,000 international students are enrolled.

In addition to the Melbourne Campus, which is east of downtown Melbourne, there are locations in Burwood , Toorak , Geelong and Warrnambool .

The university received an award in 1995/1996 for its extraordinary achievements in education and in 1999/2000 for its extraordinary achievements in education and teaching. In 2007 she was nominated for the Carrick Award for Achievement of Student Learning.
