Przymorze (translated: near the sea ; formerly: Konradshammer ) is a district of Gdansk in Poland . It covers an area of 5.44 km² and has over 45,000 inhabitants with a population density of almost 8,400 inhabitants / km². Characteristic are the seven so-called Falowiec ( wave houses ), blocks of flats several hundred meters in length in prefabricated construction, which meander and thus evoke an association with the nearby Baltic Sea .

Administratively, Przymorze consists of the two districts Przymorze Wielkie and Przymorze Małe .

geography

The Potok Oliwski (translated: Olivaer Bach ; formerly: Glettkaubach ) runs through Przymorze. Przymorze Wielkie is located on the Baltic Sea.

history

The Konradshammer residential area was named after an iron hammer and came to the Prussian district of Danzig in 1818, and with this to Germany in 1871 . From 1887 Konradshammer belonged to the Danziger Höhe district and in 1895 had 250 inhabitants. Konradshammer was incorporated into the city of Oliva in 1907 , with this the place came to the municipality of Danzig in 1926. With Oliva and Danzig Konradshammer belonged to the Mandate Danzig of the League of Nations from 1920 to 1939 . In 1939, in an act not recognized by international law , the Third Reich annexed the mandate area and incorporated it into the occupying Gdansk-West Prussia , to which Konradshammer (like all of Gdansk) belonged until the end of the Second World War .

From 1960 to 1981 a satellite settlement of the city of Gdansk was built here. After the turn of the 21st century, modern residential buildings, hypermarkets , the Galeria Przymorze shopping mall and the Arkońska Business Park office district were built .

Division into two districts

Przymorze is divided into the districts of Przymorze Wielkie and Przymorze Małe . The population density of Przymorze Wielkie is the second highest in the city of Gdańsk after Zaspa-Młyniec.
