Location of the Wyspa Sobieszewska district in Gdansk

Wyspa Sobieszewska (meaning: Bohnsacker Island ) is the easternmost district of Gdańsk ( Danzig ) in Poland , this covers an area of ​​35.8 km² and has over 3443 inhabitants with a population density of about 96 inhabitants / km². This makes it the largest and most sparsely populated district in the city. The area and the places have been administratively part of the city of Gdansk since December 1, 1973.

The district is located on Wyspa Sobieszewska Island in Gdańsk Bay . In the east and south and west it is bounded by the Vistula . In the west it borders on the districts of Krakowiec-Górki Zachodnie ( Krakau - Westlich-Neufähr ) and touches Rudniki . The island is located about 15 km east of the city center of Gdańsk.

places

The district and island got their current Polish name after the main town Sobieszewo ( Bohnsack ) , a former fishing village in the west of the island. Further settlements are Sobieszewko (Sobieszowo Pfarrdorf) Sobieszewska Pastwa (Bohnsackerweide) Przegalina (insert), Wieniec (Kronenhof) Górki Wschodnie (East-Neufahr) Komary (Schnakenburg) Świbno (Schiewenhorst) and Orlinki (or orle) ( Wordel).

Voivodship Road 501 runs through the district in a west-east direction . In the west of the island there is a pontoon bridge over the arm of the river known today as Martwa Wisła ( Dead Vistula ), in the east there is a ferry connection from Świbno (Schiewenhorst) to Mikoszewo (Nickelswalde) over the main arm of the Vistula, in the south you can get to Przegalina (insert) Cross the Strom Weichsel / Dead Weichsel lock via a bascule bridge built in 2012.
