Orunia Górna-Gdańsk Południe (translated Upper Ohra and Danzig-South ) has been the 35th and youngest district of Gdańsk in Poland since March 24, 2019 . This covers an area of 7.2 km² and has 19,807 inhabitants with a population density of 2751 inhabitants / km². By a city council resolution of August 30, 2018, the most populous district of Chełm ( Stolzenberg in German ) was divided.
history
In 2010 the most populous district of Chełm i Gdańsk Południe (translated Stolzenberg and Danzig-Süd ) was divided into the districts Chełm and Ujeścisko-Łostowice ( Wonneberg and Schönfeld ). Before the division, the district had about 72,000 inhabitants. Their number in Chełm grew from 45,704 in 2011 to more than 51,000.
Parts of the area came administratively to the city of Gdansk in 1973.
During the Second World War , a department of Stalag XX B was set up near Stolzenberg; the Danzig-Matzkau penal camp and the Matzkau branch of the Stutthof concentration camp were located in Matzkau . Remnants of the camp are still there. Stolzenberg was a capital of the Royal Prussian Immediatstadt Stolzenberg (united suburbs) in West Prussia , which was directly under the King of Prussia and existed from 1772 to 1814.

The district is located in the south of the city and borders on the districts of Ujeścisko-Łostowice, Chełm, Orunia-Św. Wojciech-Lipce and the rural communities of Pruszcz Gdański and Kolbudy in the south.
