Młyniska (German Schellmühl ) is a district of Gdańsk ( Danzig ) in Poland , this covers an area of 4.2 km² and has 3404 inhabitants with a population density of 814 inhabitants / km². Parts of the area came administratively to the city of Danzig in 1877, 1902 and 1914.

The district is located in the north of the inner city and borders the inner city , Aniołki , Wrzeszcz Dolny , Letnica and Przeróbka districts . The loop of Martwą Wisłą ( Dead Vistula ) leads through Młyniska and its artificial arm Kanał Kaszubski ( Kashubian Canal , formerly Imperial Port ) forms the eastern border of the district to Wyspa Portowa ( port island ).
More than half of the area (2.2 km²) of the district belongs to the island of Ostrów ( Holm ). A considerable area of Młyniska is occupied by shipyards and industrial plants. The residential area is Zielony Trójkąt ( Green Triangle ), where the pre-war settlement houses are almost overwhelmed by apartment blocks of the simplest construction.

history
The young city already belonged to the Hanseatic city of Danzig. From 1818 Schellmühl belonged to the district of Danzig . Legan and Klein Schellmühl were spun off from Schellmühl in 1877 and incorporated into Danzig. The rest of the Schellmühl came to the Danziger Höhe district in 1887 and to Danzig in 1914. The Holm was incorporated in 1902.
In 1844 the Imperial Shipyard (from 1919 Danzig shipyard and railway workshops ) was founded and in 1890 the branch shipyard of the Schichau shipyard in Elbing was established . The Gdansk wagon factory was located in Legan , where the Bergmann tram cars , also known as hay bumpers , were built in the 1920s .
The shipyards united after 1945 were founded in 1967 in Stocznia Gdańska im. Renamed Lenina (shortened Lenin shipyard ). In December 1970 strikes and work stoppages were carried out, which were bloodily suppressed by the state. Internationally known the shipyard, as in was strike summer of 1980 after the signing of the August Agreement in the Occupational Safety Hall shipyard trade union Solidarity was founded. The shipyard is considered to be the nucleus of the democratic movement in Poland.
A new district with office and residential buildings is to be built on the industrial wasteland around the European Solidarność Center, which opened in 2014 .

traffic
On the outskirts of the district there is Gdańsk Stocznia station of the Danzig S-Bahn , Gdańsk Nowe Szkoty is currently no longer served. There are also tram and bus routes.
