Zaspa ( German Saspe , Kashubian Zaspa ) is a district of Gdansk in Poland . It covers an area of 3.3 km² and has over 27,000 inhabitants with a population density of over 8,300 inhabitants / km².
Administratively, Zaspa consists of the two districts Zaspa-Młyniec and Zaspa-Rozstaje .
geography
The Sasper See served as a garbage dump for a long time and is practically nonexistent.
history
The small rural community of Saspe in the Danziger Höhe district still had around 1,800 inhabitants in 1905, five years later the number was already 3,149. On April 1, 1914, the place was incorporated into the municipality of Danzig.
The first Danzig airfield was built in 1910 in neighboring Langfuhr (today Wrzeszcz ). During the First World War , the facility was used for military purposes. After that, the airfield fell to the city of Danzig and in 1922 finally to the Free State of Danzig . The expanded airport was opened in Danzig-Langfuhr in 1923 and was the most important hub in the Scandinavian - Baltic region of Europe until 1939 . The airport was expanded several times between 1923 and 1936.
After the Second World War , the concrete runway built during the war was extended to two kilometers. The inner-city location, however, made the further expansion of Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz for jet aircraft impossible. With the opening of today's Lech Wałęsa Airport Gdansk , the old square was closed in 1974 and the area and the approach lanes with the two Zasper housing developments were built on. The former concrete slopes are still clearly visible between the high-rise buildings, but they are being built over more and more.
Division into two districts
Zaspa, the former small village of Saspe, is now divided into the districts of Zaspa-Młyniec and Zaspa-Rozstaje . Zaspa-Młyniec ( Saspe ( Mühlenhof )) is located southwest of Zaspa-Rozstaje ( Saspe ( Eckhof )). The population density of Zaspa-Młyniec is almost twice that of the other district. With 11,600 inhabitants per km², it is the most densely populated district in the city of Gdansk.
