Osowa (German: Espenkrug , Kashubian : Òsowô ) is the north-westernmost district of Gdańsk ( Danzig ) in Poland , it covers an area of ​​14.1 km² and has 13,245 inhabitants with a population density of 937 inhabitants / km². The area and the places have been administratively part of the city of Gdansk since January 1st 1973.

history

Espenkrug had only 201 inhabitants in 1905 and, like the neighboring town of Sopot, belonged to the Neustadt district in West Prussia in the administrative district of Danzig in the West Prussian province of the German Empire until 1920 .

After the end of the First World War , Osowa, like the greater part of West Prussia, had to be surrendered to Poland due to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty in 1920 for the purpose of establishing the Polish Corridor . In addition to Osowa ( Espenkrug ), the settlements Barniewice ( Barnewitz ), Kukawka (-), Nowy Świat ( New World ), Owczarnia ( sheep farm ) and Wysoka ( Wittstock ) belong to the Osowa district.

The municipality is connected to the city of Gdansk via the Droga ekspresowa S6 expressway .

train

Since September 2015, the station is to the new railway line Gdańsk Wrzeszcz Gdańsk-Osowa connected, the Lech Walesa Airport Gdansk is only two stations and 3.3 km away. Kościerzyna ( Berent ) is reached via the route from Gdynia ( Gdynia ) . In Gdynia and Gdańsk Wrzeszcz ( Langfuhr ) there is a connection to all long-distance trains and local transport.
