Administration building of the company

The Gdańsk Wrzeszcz – Gdańsk Osowa railway is a partially rebuilt line in the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . The route was officially opened by the Prime Minister of Poland Ewa Kopacz on August 30, 2015. It was the first opening of a new main line in Poland in 40 years. Regular train services started on September 1, 2015.

12.5 million travelers are expected every year.

history

The 716 million zloty contract to build the line was awarded to a consortium of Budimex and Ferrovial Agroman and signed on May 7, 2013. Commissioning should take place in April 2015.

The railway line was built on the route of a pre-war line from Stara Piła to Wrzeszcz . At the western end, the line joins the existing, non-electrified Gdynia Główna – Kościerzyna railway line . One advantage of reopening this line was that no buildings had to be demolished.

The PKM line is 19.5 km long, has eleven stations and connects the two ends with the SKM railway line Gdańsk – Stargard , which is the main transport corridor in the Gdańsk-Sopot-Gdynia Tricity . While the SKM route runs on the shores of the Baltic Sea, the PKM lies further inland.

The Pomeranian Voivodeship describes the PKM as "the largest project in the 12-year history of the voivodeship", noting that the Pomeranian Voivodeship Administration has never before in its history a project worth over PLN 700 million (over PLN 200 million USD).

The route is not electrified and is used by ten diesel multiple units, which were ordered by Pesa in Bydgoszcz for 114 million PLN ($ 34 million).

After heavy downpours (the heaviest rainfall in 63 years) on July 14, 2016, there were landslides on the embankment, so that the Wrzeszcz – airport section had to be closed from June 14 to September 6. Buses operated as a replacement rail service . On September 6, 2016, normal operation according to the timetable was resumed.
