history

As the only section opened before the First World War , the Prussian State Railways opened on November 14, 1901 that from Berent to Semlin as part of the BerentKarthaus line, but this section was also partially re-routed in 1930.

After the First World War and the Treaty of Versailles , the resurrected Poland had access to the sea with the Polish Corridor . Now it was a matter of building a new port in its own area with access from the south on its own area throughout. First in 1926 the Polish State Railways opened the access from Gdynia Główna station to the port as the first part of today's Nowa Wieś Wielka – Gdynia Port line, then on May 15, 1928 the section between Bydgoszcz Wschód Towarowa and Maksymilianowo , on October 15, 1928 Section Bąk - Kościerzyna as a continuation of the line from Czersk . The Somonino – Gdynia section was opened on November 9, 1930 , with the Gdynia – Kokoszki section being used in part, which was re-routed for this purpose. At the same time, the Kościerzyna – Somonino section, which had existed since 1901, was partially redrawn and the missing sections Maksymilianowo– Bąk and Nowa Wieś Wielka –Bydgoszcz Wschód Towarowy (December 21st) put into operation.

The line between Gdańsk Osowa and Gdynia has been double-tracked since 1930, and between Nowa Wieś Wielka and Maksymilianowo since around 1941, when the line belonged to the Deutsche Reichsbahn during the German occupation . Since the end of the Second World War , the line has again belonged to the Polish State Railways, which electrified the line between Nowa Wieś Wielka and Maksymilianowo until October 5, 1967, and the short stretch from Gdynia main station to the port around 1970.

In 2000, passenger traffic between Nowa Wieś Wielka and Bydgoszcz Wschód, 2011 between Lipowa Tucholska and Bąk, and on December 9, 2012 between Bąk and Kościerzyna together with the Czersk – Bąk line was discontinued. In 2015, the northern part from Kościerzyna was integrated into the PKP Szybka Kolej Miejska w Trójmieście , for which the branching railway line Gdańsk Wrzeszcz – Gdańsk Osowa was opened. In the summer of 2016, a pair of TLK night trains ran between Bąk and Gdynia Główna on the route and also stopped at the Olpuch stop, which is otherwise no longer served .
