Course and condition

Chełmża Railway Station (2011)

The line began at Brodnica station (Strasburg (West Prussia)) on the Działdowo – Chojnice railway line , which was closed to the east of Brodnica , and which is also the end point of the Kutno – Brodnica railway line, which is no longer used by passengers , and ran southwest via Golub-Dobrzyń (Gollub; km 34.871) , then westwards via Kowalewo Pomorskie (Schönsee (West Prussia); km 49.764) on the Toruń – Tschernjachowsk railway line , Chełmża (Culmsee / Kulmsee; km 70.075) on the Toruń – Malbork railway line , from where the Brodnica – Bydgoszcz line is still operated, and Unisław Pomorski (Unislaw / Kulmischwenzlau; km 85.110) on the disused Toruń – Chełmno railway line to Bydgoszcz Wschód (Karlsdorf near Bromberg / Bromberg Ost; km 109.120) on the Kutno – Piła railway line .

The line is single-track throughout and in the Bydgoszcz Fordon – Bydgoszcz Wschód section is electrified with 3000 volts DC, otherwise not electrified. The maximum speed in the section that is still passable is sixty for passenger trains in the Chełmża station area, eighty up to the 87.500 kilometer point, seventy up to the 102.140 kilometer point, then sixty kilometers per hour for passenger trains, and forty kilometers per hour for freight trains in the Chełmża station area, otherwise fifty kilometers per hour Hour.

history

The first section of the line from Karlsdorf to Fordon was opened by the Prussian State Railways on November 1, 1885 , followed on October 25, 1893 by the continuation to Culmsee on the line from Thorn to Graudenz (1883 to Marienburg ), which was opened in 1882 . In July 1894, the continuation to Schönsee on the Thorn – Allenstein – Insterburg line opened in 1871–1873 was put into operation and on November 1, 1900 the last section from Schönsee via Gollub to Strasburg on the Soldau – Jablonowo line opened in 1887–1888 (from 1903 Goßlershausen ).

After the end of the First World War in 1918, the Treaty of Versailles in 1919 and the cession of the Polish Corridor in 1920, the line was transferred to the Polish State Railways . During the German occupation of Poland 1939–1945 after the Polish campaign , the line was operated by the Deutsche Reichsbahn , in 1939 (restored in 1941) and 1945 the bridge over the Vistula (now the Rudolf Modrzejewski Bridge ) was badly damaged; it was rebuilt in 1952–1956 .

The line from Bydgoszcz Wschód to Bydgoszcz Fordon has been electrified since May 31, 1984. On October 1, 1999, passenger traffic between Brodnica and Chełmża was stopped, on April 3, 2000 that from Chełmża to Bydgoszcz Fordon and then between Bydgoszcz Fordon and Bydgoszcz Wschód was also stopped. Passenger trains have been running between Chełmża and Bydgoszcz again since December 13, 2008, while the eastern section between Brodnica and Kowalewo Pomorskie has been closed and the section from Kowalewo Pomorskie and Chełmża is still listed on the PKP Polskie line Kolejowe route list, but as impassable.
