The Radunia ( German Radaune ; Kashubian Reduniô ) is a river in Pomerellen in the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship .
It rises in the Radaune Lake (Jezioro Raduńskie Górne ) or Stendsitzer Lake ( Jezioro Stężyckie ) near Stężyca ( Stendsitz ) in the center of Kashubian Switzerland . Researchers are of the opinion that the name can be derived from Prussian “raudas”: reddish (cf. Latvian “rauda”: roach ). The Prussian name Raudune dates from 1316, while the river name appears in Pomeranian documents as Raduna as early as 1212.
The Radaune flows into the Mottlau ( Motława ) at Krępiec ( Krampitz ) , which in turn flows into the Vistula at Gdańsk ( Danzig ) . The length of the Rdaune is 103.2 km, the area of the catchment area 837 km². The difference in altitude from the source to the mouth is 162 m. The towns on the river include Żukowo ( Zuckau ) and Pruszcz Gdański ( Praust ), a town with around 22,000 inhabitants.
Better known is the Radaunekanal (Kanał Raduni), which was built in Prussia in the 14th century under the rule of the Teutonic Order to supply Gdansk with water. It branches off from the river near the city of Praust, leads directly to Gdansk, where it operated the large mill and several other businesses in Gdansk's old town until 1945 . After flowing around the right town and the old town in an arc, it flows north of the old town into the Motlawa.
In the years 1910–1937 eight hydropower plants were built on the Radaune ; their total output is 14 MW .
The Jar Rzeki Raduni nature reserve was established on a part of the river course with a length of approx. 6 km . Its area is 84.24 hectares .
