Kashubian Switzerland
The Kashubian Switzerland (Polish Szwajcaria Kaszubska , Kashubian Kaszëbskô Szwajcarëjô ) is a hilly forest and lake landscape of the Kashubian Lake District in the Kashubia region , the center of which is about 40 km southwest of Gdansk .
location
Kashubian Switzerland represents the central and highest part of the Kashubian Lake District around the Wieżyca mountain and the cross-shaped lake Wdzydze . The sparsely populated area is one of the largest contiguous forest areas in Poland and is open to tourism . Their hills rise up to 200 m above the surrounding area. Many of the 250 or so lakes are connected by canals and allow longer water hikes. The center of Kashubian Switzerland is the mountain Wieżyca, which with its 331 m is not only the highest point of the Kashubian Lake District, but also of the whole Polish lowlands as well as the Baltic ridge from Estonia to Germany consisting of glacial deposits .

places
The small town of Kartuzy , which only received town charter in 1923, is considered the capital of Kashubian Switzerland . It is the only city in Kashubian Switzerland. Kartuzy is home to the Kashubian Museum, which exhibits evidence of Kashubian culture and traditional handicrafts. A little outside of the village there are remains of the former Carthusian monastery , from which the place takes its name. The Gothic, later Baroque-style monastery church with a roof in the shape of a coffin lid is worth seeing. The large, splendidly carved choir stalls date from the 3rd quarter of the 17th century . Of the monastery buildings, only one of the original 18 Klausen has been preserved.
In the small town of Wdzydze Kiszewskie am Wdzydze there is an open-air museum with old Kashubian wooden houses and other testimonies to the way of life of this ethnic group.
