August Eduard Preuss (born March 13, 1801 in Kaukehmen , East Prussia , † June 7, 1839 in Königsberg i. Pr. ) Was a German schoolboy and non-fiction author.

Life

Preuss was the son of the district surgeon in Kaukehmen. He received private tuition at home and then from the age of 16 attended the Collegium Fridericianum in Königsberg . From autumn 1821 he studied theology at the University of Königsberg , where Gustav Friedrich Dinter (1760–1831) later became his sponsor. Even before finishing his studies, in August 1824, he was employed as an assistant teacher in the Königsberg Royal Orphanage at Sackheimer Tor . Preuss has rendered extraordinary services to the expansion of this institution, which most recently included a teachers 'college, a boys' school, a preparatory institution and a training school and whose director he had been since January 22, 1829.

On March 18, 1831, Preuss married Rosalie Stehr, the youngest daughter of the Stehr government, with whom he had three children. In spite of his poor health, he wrote several non-fiction books in quick succession in addition to his educational and organizational activities. At the request of the government, he also founded the magazine Der Volksschulfreund , the first edition of which came out on April 1, 1837 and which appeared weekly until 1909 - under a different editor. The deeply religious and patriotically minded Prussia suffered a hemorrhage on his birthday in 1839 , which was attributed to his excessive workload and from which he could no longer recover; he died on June 7, 1839 at the age of only 38 years. His reading book Preußischer Kinderfreund , published together with JA Vetter, was published for the 106th time in 1859 and served as a template for a corresponding reading book for Israelite schools.
