The big mill

The Great Mill ( Wielki Młyn in Polish ) on the Radaune Island in the old town of Gdansk is one of the largest economic buildings of the Middle Ages.

history

The brick building was erected in the 14th century by the Teutonic Order , who also built the Radaunekanal , the water of which powered the mill until 1945. The mill was initially driven by twelve, later by 18 large mill wheels.

Today there is a shopping center in the Great Mill, which burned out during the war. Inside there are still some large millstones to be seen today.
