Sascha Hawemann

Sascha Hawemann (* 1967 in Berlin ) is a German Yugoslav theater director .

Life

Sascha Hawemann was born as the child of Horst Hawemann and Mirjana Erceg in 1967 and grew up in East Berlin and Belgrade . He left the GDR illegally in 1986 and went via Hungary to Belgrade in Yugoslavia. There he studied German from 1987 to 1988 and from 1988 to 1991 directing at the University of Dramatic Art (FDU) . When the war in Yugoslavia began , he returned to Berlin in 1991.

After completing his studies in directing from 1991 to 1994 at the "Ernst Busch" Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin , he began his theater work in 1995 as in-house director and from 1997 as director at the Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam .

Hawemann has been a freelance director since the 2000/2001 season, including at the Nationaltheater Weimar , Schauspielhaus Chemnitz , Theater Magdeburg , Theater Bielefeld , Maxim Gorki Theater , Deutsche Theater Berlin , Staatstheater Hannover and Staatstheater Nürnberg . From 2008 to 2013 he worked at the Centraltheater Leipzig , including two years as in-house director and since 2015 at the Theater Bonn and Theater Dortmund .

In addition to his work as a director, he worked as an acting lecturer at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin , the Berlin University of the Arts , the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Academy of Music and Theater in Leipzig and the Zurich Academy of Drama.

Sascha Hawemann is married and has one child.

Editing of novels and plays

In addition to directing and teaching, he is interested in adapting novels and plays, including adapting the play “Right to Youth” ( Arnolt Bronnen ), dramatizing the stories “The Coat” ( Nikolaj Gogol ), “The Night, the Lights” ( Clemens Meyer ), “Gewalten” ( Clemens Meyer ) play developments such as “Traum von Hollywood” (Clemens Meyers) and novel dramatizations “Spur der Steine” ( Erik Neutsch ) and “My sister is a monk seal” ( Christian Frascella ). In 2018 his first independent play "Iggy Lust for Life" premiered at the State Theater in Hanover. In 2019 his adaptation of Fjodor Dostoyevsky's novel "The Demons" was premiered at the Dortmund Theater.

In addition, he translated and edited the German scripts for the Serbian films “Beli, beli svet” and “Sutra ujutro” by director Oleg Novković.

Theater and music

Hawemann's interest in the interaction of drama and music led to collaborations with bands and musicians such as Subway to Sally , ear, Bodenski , Robert Beckman ( Inchtabokatables ) and Xell .
