Erik Neutsch (born June 21, 1931 in Schönebeck , Calbe a./S. District , Prussian province of Saxony ; † August 20, 2013 in Halle (Saale) , Saxony-Anhalt ) was a German writer .

Life

Erik Neutsch came from a working-class family . After attending secondary school and passing high school , he joined the SED and the FDJ in 1949 . From 1950 to 1953 studied he Social Sciences and Journalism at the University of Leipzig . He successfully completed this course as a journalist . He then worked in the culture and business department of the newspaper Die Freiheit in Halle / Saale until 1960 .

Since 1960 Neutsch worked as a writer and journalist . From 1963 he was a member of the SED district leadership in Halle / Saale. In 1970/71 he did a voluntary year in the National People's Army .

He has written novels , short stories , children's books , essays , poems and scripts . Ultimately, his books, which are always loyal to the party, deal with the social problems of actually existing socialism in the GDR . Neutsch achieved his greatest success with the novel Spur der Steine , which deals with the development of a worker on a large construction site from a nonconformist to an adapted member of socialist society. With a circulation of over 500,000 copies, the book was one of the most successful books in GDR literature ; The film adaptation by Frank Beyer was removed from the program three days after the premiere in 1966 and only performed again in 1989 after the fall of the Berlin Wall . Since the 1970s, Neutsch has been working on his main work, the novel cycle Der Friede im Osten , in which the history of the GDR is portrayed in an epic manner; of the planned six books five have appeared, with the fifth book being published six months after his death. There are various statements about the completion of the 5th book (in "Erik Neutsch - A little closer to the truth" by Marita Neutsch). Neutsch was no longer able to write the 6th volume, Years of the Calm Sun , conceived by 1990 .

Erik Neutsch had been a member of the GDR Writers' Association since 1960 ; from 1963 to 1965 he was chairman of the Halle district association of this organization. Since 1974 he was a full member of the Academy of Arts of the GDR ; since 1990 he was a member of the Association of German Writers .

In the multi-part television film Columbus 64 by Ulrich Thein from 1966, he plays himself.

Neutsch was married twice and last lived in Halle-Dölau . From his first marriage (April 1, 1953 to October 21, 1996) with Helga Neutsch, b. Franke, († October 21, 1996) he has two daughters: Marita Neutsch, b. 1954 (author of " On the track of my dreams", ISBN 3-932725-52-2 , GNN-Verlag 1998 and "Erik Neutsch- A bit closer to truth" (2018) ISBN 978-3-9819596-0-4 Primary Verlag Berlin) and Corinna Schmidt, b.
