A novel cycle is a series of standalone novels , by a topic (eg. As the Ringworld act) or z around a circle of recurring characters (. As Harry Potter in youth book series by JK Rowling or family Rougon- Macquart at Émile Zola ). Cycles are particularly common in science fiction and fantasy .

The most common representatives are cycles, which consist of three parts and are therefore called a trilogy . Works with a different number of parts are called two-parter (2), tetralogy (4), pentalogy (5), hexalogy (6), heptalogy (7), octalogy (8), decalogy (10), dodecalogy (12). Of these terms, however, only two-part, trilogy and tetralogy are widespread .
