Limbo Messiah is the fifth studio album by the Beatsteaks . It was released on March 30, 2007 as a deluxe edition including the DVD Demons Galore and as a "normal" album version. The album went straight to third place in the German album charts and brought the band their highest position in the music charts to date .

Emergence

Singer Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß said in an interview shortly after the album was released that the long time gap of three years between Smack Smash and the new record was not what the band wanted. The work on the DVD B-side , which was released at the end of 2005 and which the band personally designed, would have taken a lot of time and led to the delay. Limbo Messiah , like its predecessor, was recorded live and produced by Moses Schneider , but mostly in Hamburg , as the band's favorite studio in Berlin was occupied. On the choice of the album title, drummer Thomas Götz says: “We always thought Limbo Messiah, that sounds funny. And gradually we discovered more and more meanings, because limbo can mean very different things: on the one hand, the dance limbo, then limbo is also a computer language, and last but not least, the first courtyard becomes hell, where the children are punished with boredom , known as limbo. We just thought, everything would fit perfectly, sounds great, sounds funny. "

style

Overall, the sound on Limbo Messiah is a little darker than on its predecessor Smack Smash , but also more varied. Some songs, for example Sharp, Cool & Collected or Demons Galore , are characterized by fast, aggressive punk rock, but there is also an offbeat- heavy track with Cut Off the Top and with She Was Great one by Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß in falsetto - Style of song sung. Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß himself says about the album: “It's not such a sunny album as Smack Smash , it's clearly more aggressive, almost bitchy at times. We have never done anything like this in our cosmos. "

As with Smack Smash , other band members do some vocal parts. Drummer Thomas Götz sings the chorus of the single Jane Became Insane and guitarist Peter Baumann sings the verses of the song EGO .

Singles

The first single on the album, released on March 9, 2007, was Jane Became Insane . The accompanying video landed, like the music videos of the singles from Smack Smash , at the top of the MTV TRL charts and finally reached the golden tape for reaching the top spot fifteen times . The second single, Cut Off the Top , was released on June 29, 2007. The single Demons Galore was released on October 5, 2007 in the form of an EP. The last single on the album was Meantime .
