history

Mandl and Zwietnig met in 1998 on a train ride from Berlin to Salzburg and decided to make music together. At first they spent some time together in Berlin, but in 2000 they lived in different cities again, one in Vienna , the other in Berlin. There are some works in addition to the study of short films and video installations .

The idea of the “Mediengruppe Telekommander” came up for the first time, with the aim of incorporating a wide variety of artists, concepts and techniques. After the great success of “Women are better” they decided to produce more pieces and to realize the media group as a live band. This was followed by close collaboration with the producer Christian Harder, who comes from Ladbergen ( Tecklenburger Land near Osnabrück ) and who works in Hamburg. Ella Hering also took care of all the graphic design and the photos of Florian Zwietnig's former schoolmate Daniel Flaschar. In December 2002 the first EP with five songs was released on the Hamburg indie label Enduro. After the first live appearances, the second EP followed in September 2003. During this time they became known through many MP3 downloads and a no-budget video command , which was brought closer to a wider audience , especially through the Viva program Fast Forward .

In November 2003 they began producing their first album, The Whole Power of a Culture , which was released in May 2004 on Mute Records as a CD and on Enduro as a vinyl record . After a final concert in Berlin's Palast der Republik, Florian and Gerald took a break in 2005 to work with Moses Schneider and Ben Lauber as well as Andreas Herbig and Gerhard Potuznik (mix) on the new album Closer to People , which was released on May 5, 2006 Mute appeared. In the same year, the Telekommander media group and Deichkind took part in the Love Parade with their own car .

In January 2009 the single Endlosrille was released , in June 2009 the single One must go in the lead .

At the turn of the year 2011/2012 the band broke up. In August 2011 the last album The Elite of Charity was released . On October 29, 2011 they gave a farewell concert in Hamburg and on November 5 as part of the “great n8musik” festival in Salzburg . The farewell concert in Austria took place on January 21, 2012 in Vienna at the FM4 birthday party. The last concert was given on February 3rd, 2012 in the Festsaal Kreuzberg in Berlin.
