Juicy Beats ( juicy rhythms ) is an annually since 1996 in Westphalia Park in Dortmund take-find music festival .
history
The origin of the festival was a summer open-air edition of the “Club Trinidad”, which took place in 1996 as “Juicy Fruits” with 2,000 guests under the awning in Dortmund's Westfalenpark. The "Club Trinidad" in the Dortmund FZW (Freizeitzentrum West) was one of the most important clubs in the house music genre in Germany and the successful open-air debut was continued every year with an ever larger range of programs and increasing audiences. After more than 10 years, in which the festival was organized based on the organizational structure of the FZW, the increasing growth of the event resulted in the need to put Juicy Beats on its own. The festival has been organized by Popmodern GmbH in cooperation with the Association for Urban Pop Culture (UPop e.V.) and the youth welfare office of the city of Dortmund since 2007.
In 2015 the festival was to take place for the first time over two days from Friday to Saturday. However, due to impending storms, the festival Saturday was canceled on Saturday morning. In 2016, the festival was able to take place over two days as planned and, despite the cancellation in the previous year, recorded a record attendance of 50,000 guests. The 25th anniversary of the festival will be celebrated next year.
execution
During the festival, the Westfalenpark is divided into several so-called areas , each of which bears the name of a fruit and is marked on signposts with appropriate pictograms . The festival takes place (as of 2019) on a total of six stages and approx. 14 to 20 floors , whereby in addition to the gastronomic facilities of the Westfalenpark, extraordinary locations are also used, such as B. the floating stage or the volleyball fields . The mix of styles ranges from electro, indie / alternative, hip-hop, house, techno, reggae to world beat. The Juicy Beats Festival works with volunteers in many places. This volunteer program, which has existed since 2007, has grown in the last 9 years to include up to 180 participating volunteers (as of 2018). Since 2015 the organizer has also been offering a campsite for around 3000 people south of the festival site.
