Zoot Woman is a British band playing synth pop with reminiscences from the 1980s .

history

The band was originally founded in 1995 by Adam Blake (* 1977) and Stuart Price as an instrumental band, before Adam Blake's brother Johnny (* 1981) joined the band as a singer in 1999.

The debut album Living in a Magazine is a concept album that tells the story of the model Jessie and criticizes today's information overload. With this album Zoot Woman established themselves in the music scene and were celebrated as the pioneers of electroclash . Two years later, the self-titled album Zoot Woman was released . With their live appearances, Zoot Woman gained a worldwide fan base.

Due to the work on many side projects and the activity as a producer for Madonna , The Killers , Seal or the Scissor Sisters , among others , Stuart Price has only been at concerts irregularly since 2005. Jasmin O'Meara supported Johnny and Adam Blake on bass, synths and vocals from 2007 to 2014.

At the end of 2007, We Won't Break , the first single from a new album originally announced for 2008, was released as a free download on the Internet including the accompanying music video (by Mirjam Baker and Michael Kren). The second single that followed in March 2008 was Live In My Head . Both songs are on the band's third album. "Things Are What They Used to Be" was released on August 21, 2009 on Snowhite Records from Berlin, after six years of creative but not a concert break.

On August 29, 2014, the fourth studio album Star Climbing was released. "Star climbing" is discussed very controversially in the German media landscape. Time regrets that nothing on the new album clashes as it did before. "Well done, no laughing, good night," the Spex concludes its review, which is not positive. The feuilleton of the world , on the other hand, writes that this is a brilliant masterpiece and the most distinguished piece of pop of the year. motor.de comes to the conclusion that with "Star Climbing" Zoot Woman is reaching for the stars of the electropop sky, but only in retrospect will it be seen whether they will get one.

On June 16, 2017, the meanwhile fifth album "Absence" was released again on Snowhite Records, which had already released the 2009 album "Things are what they used to be". "Absence" includes a collaboration with Kylie Minogue . Stuart Price had produced her album " Aphrodite ".
