Aphrodite is the eleventh studio album by Australian singer Kylie Minogue . It was released worldwide in July 2010. The title of the album stands for Aphrodite , the Greek goddess of love, beauty and desire.

background

Minogue's record label Parlophone describes the album as the "Kylie Minogue returning to her roots on the dance floor." The label scheduled the release of the record for April 20th and released a snippet of the lead single All the Lovers at the same time . Executive producer of the album is Stuart Price of Zoot Woman , who has worked for Madonna , The Killers , Keane and Missy Elliott , among others . Songwriter of the songs include Calvin Harris , Jake Shears , Nerina Pallot , Tim Rice-Oxley from Keane and Kish Mauve, the English Elektropopduo that already the song 2 Hearts of Minogue's previous album X had written.

Price was involved in the work on the album after a songwriting session with Minogue to ensure the quality of the album by picking the strongest songs, mixing them, and putting them in a good sounding order. The album does not contain any ballads, but some were recorded that will later appear elsewhere, possibly as the B-side.

Kylie Minogue said in an interview about the inspiration for her new album: “I ask myself that sometimes. I think the inspiration to come back and take that roller coaster ride again came after the shows in North America. They came from the real heart and I felt amazing. It reminded me how great it can be ... The album is more about a very happy moment in my life. "When asked if Aphrodite would be a good final album, she replied," Yeah, I think so. It's a happy album… When Stuart and I were putting together the track list, we noticed that the album had some bangs and that we needed songs like Closer to calm the sound down a bit. "

The review of the album was quite positive. Tanja Kraus from CDStarts praised the album for its suitability for climbing. “You have to admit that [sic] Kylie not only released a good summer album, which ensures a good mood and movement on the dance floor, but she is already at a level that further stabilizes her status as a successful pop singer, because she has some hit candidates [...] The first single All The Lovers not only offers a music video that shows a lot of skin, the song shines with a catchy chorus and could become a real hit again for the native Australian. After these soulful, rather chilled-out beats, another pop pearl comes to light with Get Outta My Way : dance floor beats meet another very catchy chorus, which again has summer hit character. After Put Your Hands Up , which is more reminiscent of weak Eurodance times , which comes across as monotonous and unexciting, Kylie presents Electro-Pop of the advanced generation with Closer , which stands out positively from the rest, which is sometimes too polished, by means of innovative sounds. "

Adrian Meyer, editor at Laut, criticized the album for the “harmlessness” of the songs and for the fact that the album seems boring due to the lack of ballads: “Midtempo and constant 4/4 is clearly the program, there is none on the record only ballad. ' You're getting boring / You're all so boring / And I don't recognize the zombie you turned into ', Kylie warns confidently in Get Outta My Way . One would like to counter her with the same slogan on a large poster halfway through most of the songs… Pre-single All The Lovers quickly makes it clear: Kylie appeals to lust […] Contrary to the Kylie hits that reappear every year, the song lacks that certain rousing Something. The gummy bear synths whisper in the wind too superficially, Kylie's breathy reluctance doesn't help ... Only Cupid Boy makes you sit up and take notice . The song is surprisingly dark and in the minimalist intro and outro even reminds of She Wants Revenge . For the first time on the record you can perceive something like a bit of soul in Kylie's voice, the chorus is downright euphoric. "

Background information on All the Lovers

As the lead single from the album of the pop song was All The Lovers (German: All the lovers ) published in Germany on June 11 of 2010. All the Lovers was written by the English duo Kish Mauve and was one of the last songs to be completed for the album. Minogue chose the song as the first single for the album, as it perfectly reflects the euphoric mood of the work. The lyrics of the song are an invitation to the dance floor and compare previous relationships with a current lover. All The Lovers was first featured by Kylie Minogue on her website, where she uploaded a clip with the album artwork, which features the instrumental part of the All the Lovers bridge . Critics compared the song to Minogue's song I Believe in You . "The song shines with a catchy chorus and could be a real hit again for the native Australian", says Tanja Kraus from CDStarts.

The music video for All the Lovers was shot by Joseph Khan in Los Angeles. The subject of the video was inspired by the images of the American photographer Spencer Tunick . The video begins with a flash mob of people drop whatever they are holding and begin to undress. They start kissing and form a mountain of people that Kylie Minogue is highlighted in the chorus of the song. The mountain gets bigger and bigger as the video progresses. In the bridge of the album, a white horse gallops through the streets between the kissing couples. Huge white shapes, including marshmallows and an elephant, fly around the city's buildings.
