Heaven (. English for " sky ") is a rock - ballad of the Canadian rock singer Bryan Adams. The song was written by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance and produced by Adams with Bob Clearmountain .

The title first appeared in 1983 on the soundtrack for the film A Night in Heaven with a length of 4:02 minutes. On the album Reckless it was released in November 1984 in a 4:03 minute version. Furthermore, the title was released as a single in April 1985 , which became a number one hit in the US .

Emergence

The song was written in 1983 by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. Adams recorded a demo that included Diana as well as Heaven . The final version of the song was recorded on June 6 and 7, 1983 at Avatar Studios (better known as Power Station Studios) in New York and then released on the film soundtrack.

Adams thought at the time that Heaven didn't go well with the album Reckless , which was recorded a year later , and producer Jimmy Iovine, who worked very closely with Adams at the time , was of the same opinion . Iovine thought the song was too "nice" for the album. So it was decided not to include Heaven in the final version of the album, but at the last moment Adams changed his mind and Heaven made it onto the record.

During the Heaven recording session , drummer Mickey Curry ended his collaboration with Adams because he liked the studio recordings with Hall & Oates better. The recording of Heaven were with Steve Smith finished the drummer of Journey . On the same day that the studio recording ended, Smith took over from Curry as drummer for the recordings of Adams. While writing Heaven , Adams and Vallance were influenced by Journey's music.

Music video

The music video was shot in Vancouver in the summer of 1985 . The director took Steve Barron . In the video, Adams presents his ballad at a concert ; behind him are screens where Adam's band is playing. The video was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award in the Best Cinematography category.

reception

Heaven was largely positively received by music critics . In mid-1985, Adams was referred to as the "master of the radio-grade rock ballad" due to the success of Heaven .
