Waking Up the Neighbors (English for. " The neighbors wake ") is the sixth studio album of Canadian rock singer Bryan Adams . It is considered both the artist's best-selling album and one of the most successful Canadian productions ever.

background

The album was released towards the end of September 1991 and contains, among other things, the song (Everything I Do) I Do It for You , which became a world hit and is Adam's best-selling single to this day . The song was the title track of the film Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner , Alan Rickman and Sean Connery . The song was written by Adams, Mutt Lange and Michael Kamen . The album was recorded between 1990 and 1991 at Battery Studios ( England ) and The Warehouse Studio in Vancouver . Producers were Bryan Adams and Robert John “Mutt” Lange , who had previously worked with bands like AC / DC, Foreigner and Def Leppard.

controversy

In addition to its great sales success, the album became known in Canada due to the controversy that flared up on the album over the " Canadian content " regulation of the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). This states that Canadian radio and television broadcasts require a certain percentage of Canadian music to be broadcast. Since Waking Up the Neighbors was partially recorded in England and co-producer Mutt Lange comes from Zambia , the album was not considered a purely Canadian production. Although one of the most successful albums by a Canadian artist worldwide, Waking Up the Neighbors could not be played as often in Canada according to the "Canadian Content" regulation, as requested by the broadcasters. The dispute that flared up over this issue resulted in the CRTC's “Canadian Content” regulation being relaxed. In the meantime, foreign artists are at least partially allowed to participate in Canadian productions without any problems with the regulations.
