Apamea Kibotos

Apameia Kibotos (Απάμεια Κιβωτός) was an ancient city in Phrygia at the sources of the Meander and Marsyas rivers. Today is the city dinars and is located in the province of Afyonkarahisar in Turkey .

Antiochus I re- founded the city on the site of the older city of Kelainai and renamed it Apamea after his mother Apame.

In the Roman Empire , Apamea was the largest market town in Asia Minor after Ephesus and the capital of a convent . In late antiquity the city was a bishopric; the Roman Catholic titular diocese of Apamea Cibotus is linked to this .

In the area of ​​today's urban area there are only a few remains of the ancient buildings, including the theater and parts of the stadium as well as several necropolis fields. On a hill in the east of Dinar high above the city lie the foundation walls of an early Christian pillar basilica. Finds from Apamea are exhibited in the Afyonkarahisar Archaeological Museum .
