Afyonkarahisar is a province of Turkey with 725,568 inhabitants. The provincial capital of the same name Afyonkarahisar has 299,673 inhabitants (as of the end of 2018).

The province of Afyonkarahisar is located in the west of Asia Minor and is mostly in the Aegean region (Ege Bölgesi) .

On January 6, 2005, the previous province of Afyon officially got its previous name Afyonkarahisar (from Turkish afyon , "opium" and kara hisar , "black castle").
