Bayat is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Afyonkarahisar . The place is named after the Oghuz tribe of the Bayat . The city is located about 40 kilometers northeast of the provincial capital Afyonkarahisar and is home to about 54 percent of the district's population.

The district is in the north of the province. It borders on Emirdağ to the east, Bolvadin to the southeast, Çobanlar to the south, İscehisar to the west and Eskişehir province to the north . The European route 96 runs through the city and the district from Izmir to Sivrihisar . Part of the Şaphane Dağı Mountains lies in the north of the district . In addition to the district town, the district consists of twelve villages ( Köy ) with an average of 305 inhabitants. Only one of them has more than 1,000 inhabitants: Derbent (1,066).
