Şuhut is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Afyonkarahisar . The city is located about 25 kilometers south of the provincial capital Afyonkarahisar . It houses about 38 percent of the district's population and is divided into 13 Mahalle .
The district is located in the southern center of the province. It borders on Dinar and Sandıklı to the west, Sinanpaşa to the northwest , the central district and Çobanlar to the north, Çay to the east and Isparta province to the southeast . A connecting road from Afyonkarahisar to Eğirdir runs through Şuhut from north to south . In the south of the district lies the northern slope of the Karakuş Dağları Mountains , in the west the eastern slope of Sandıklı Dağı . The Şuhut Ovası plain extends in between . About 13 kilometers east of the district town, the Kalı Çayı river is dammed up to form the Selevir Barajı reservoir. The river flows further northwest into the Akarçay , which later flows into the lake Eber Gölü .
In addition to the district town, the district also consists of the small town / municipality ( Belediye ) Karaadilli (2,397 inhabitants) and 35 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 567 inhabitants. Seven of these villages have 1,000 inhabitants and more: Mahmut (1,739), Yarışlı (1,619), Balçıkhisar (1,422), Atlıhisar (1,419), Efe (1,263), Çakırözü (1,181) and Akyuva (1,000 inhabitants).
