history

It is believed that Eğirdir was founded by Kroisos (560-547 BC), the ruler of Lydia . The Eğirdir Castle was therefore built by the Lydians. During the Roman times the place was called Prostanna . The first Turkish settlements probably emerged after 1071. The Seljuk ruler Kılıç Arslan III. had incorporated Eğirdir and the neighboring villages into the Seljuk Empire in 1204 . The Seljuks used this place as a place of rest and named it Cennetâbad (meaning city of heaven ) because of its charming landscape . In 1391, Egirdir and its surroundings came into Ottoman hands. Some time later, Eğirdir also came under the rule of Timur and the Karamanoğulları . However, during the reign of Sultan Murat II , it was finally assigned to the Ottoman Empire in 1423. After reorganization, it was incorporated into the Konya Province , and after the establishment of the Republic of Turkey into the Isparta Province.
