Atabey is a district and a county seat in the Turkish province of Isparta , about 22 kilometers northwest of Isparta. The previous name was Agros. This name is of Greek origin and means "fields". The first known written mention took place in the year 869. In 1910 the place received the status of a municipality ( Belediye ).

The district was formed in 1926. It is located in the center of the province and borders on Uluborlu and Senirkent counties in the north, Eğirdir in the east, the central district ( Merkez ) in the south and Gönen county in the west. In addition to the district town, the district consists of five villages ( Köy ) with an average of 295 residents. İslamköy is the largest village (900 inhabitants). The population density reaches about half the provincial average (of 49 inhabitants per km²).
