Zonguldak is a province in Turkey that originally included the provinces of Bartın and Karabük . Its capital is the Zonguldak of the same name . Zonguldak with its significant coal reserves is an important port on the western Black Sea coast. A country road leads to the beach resorts of Kopuz and Uzunkum . The provincial capital is about 190 kilometers as the crow flies north-north-west (NNW) from the state capital.

geography

The province belongs to the western part (Turkish: Batı Karadeniz Bölümü ) of the Turkish Black Sea region (Turkish: Karadeniz Bölgesi ). It borders in the southwest on the province of Düzce , in the south on the province of Bolu , in the southeast on the province of Karabük and in the northeast on the province of Bartın . Otherwise, the Black Sea forms the natural border in the north and west.

A total of 172,052 people live in the 380 villages ( Köy , plural Köyler ), i.e. an average of 453 inhabitants per village. 22 villages in the province have more than a thousand inhabitants, 145 more than the average population. Ahatlı in the Çaycuma district is the largest village with 1,658, the smallest has 79 inhabitants.

Devrek , a town 50 km southeast of Zonguldak with a population of 67,000, is famous for the manufacture of carved wooden walking sticks and Çaycuma for its yogurt specialties.

Infrastructure and traffic

Saltukova Airport has been open to international air traffic for several years. There are flights between Düsseldorf and Zonguldak every week.
