Devrek is a town and capital of the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Zonguldak in the Black Sea region . The city was previously called Hamidiye and was renamed Devrek after the founding of today's Turkey. Already in 1892 the place received the status of a Belediye (municipality).

geography

location

The largest district in Zonguldak Province occupies about 28.5% of the district area. It is located in the western part of the Pontic Mountains . The district borders in the west on the Alaplı and Ereğli districts , in the north on the central district ( Merkez ) of the provincial capital, in the northeast on the districts Yenice ( Karabük province ) and Gökçebey and in the south on the Mengen district ( Bolu province ).

There are two levels in the county that surround the towns of Devrek (Devrek Yaylası) and Eğerci (Aksu Yaylası), the latter of which is the larger. They are about 100 meters above sea level. High mountains are concentrated around these valleys, for example in the south of the Göl Dağı , in the west of the Baba Dağı , in the southeast of the Akçasu and the Yenice Mountains . The highest mountain is the Dorukhan with 925 meters in the southwest.

Numerous streams flow in the district, most of which feed the river of the same name, which crosses the town of Devrek. This rises near Abant as Abant Çayı and only gets the name Devrek Çayı at Yeniçağ (in the district of Mengen in the province of Bolu), after the incorporation of other streams . West of Gökçebey the river flows into the Filyos Çayı , which reaches the Black Sea 50 km further north.

vegetation

The district of Devrek is about 70 percent covered with forest, making it one of the most wooded districts in Turkey. The predominant tree species are pine and oak, firs and beeches are also worth mentioning, as well as elms, birches and a few linden trees. Chestnuts and poplars are planted in the farmers' gardens.
