Kozlu is a town and capital of the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Zonguldak in the western Black Sea region . The city is located about five kilometers southwest of the provincial capital Zonguldak on the coast and (according to the city logo) was raised to the status of a Belediye (municipality) in 1941 . Kozlu City is the end of the Irmak – Karabük – Zonguldak railway line .

The district is located in the north of the province on the Black Sea . It borders on Kilimli County to the east, Devrek County to the south, and Ereğli County to the west . The Black Sea forms a natural border in the north. The coastal road D010 from Karasu to Zonguldak runs through the city and the district from west to east . The slightly mountainous district is located in the northeastern foothills of the Akçakoca Dağları . In the northeast is the Ulatan Barajı reservoir (also Kozlu Barajı ).

The district was created as part of a regional reform at the end of 2012, when the Bucak of the same name (Law No. 6360) was split off from the former central district of Zonguldak in the southwest. The southern borders of the new district were also slightly changed. The Bucak Kozlu included a population of 46,018 in 24 villages to the last census before the area change (2000), this represented 21.07 percent of that county's population.

At the end of 2018, the district was divided into the district town (84.44% of the district population) and 23 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 327 residents. The population numbers ranged from 819 ( Uzungüney ) to 134, nine villages had more than the average (327) inhabitants.

The population density was the second highest in the province (273.3 inhabitants per km²), it was 179.5 for the province.
