Tumber Metin (born October 14, 1974 in Kozlu in the province of Zonguldak ) is a Turkish TV football commentator and former football player .

Career

Football career

In the club

The beginnings

Tümer Metin began his professional football career in the 1993/94 season with the Turkish third division club Kilimli Belediyespor . After one season he moved to the then Turkish second division club Zonguldakspor and played 94 competitive games and scored 17 goals in three years.

Samsunspor

In September 1997, shortly after the start of the 1997/98 season , the 23-year-old was transferred to the Turkish first division club Samsunspor . In his first season Tümer Metin reached fifth place in the league with his team and qualified for the UEFA Intertoto Cup . Later in July 1998, he made his European debut in the first leg of the second round of the UEFA Intertoto Cup against Lyngby BK . With the red and whites , Tümer Metin managed to reach the semi-finals of the European Cup and were eliminated from the eventual UEFA Intertoto Cup winner Werder Bremen .

In his last season ( 2000/01 ) at Samsunspor, he showed his best performance when Tümer Metin scored ten goals in 32 league games as a midfielder. He played over 100 competitive games in four years and scored more than ten goals.

Beşiktaş Istanbul

In the summer of 2001, the 27-year-old moved to the traditional club Beşiktaş Istanbul together with his team-mate İlhan Mansız , as his contract with his previous club had expired. In the 2001/02 season he scored the golden goal in extra time to win the quarter-finals 3-2 of the Turkish Cup , so his team moved into the semi-finals. They later reached the Turkish Cup final, but lost it to Kocaelispor .

In the following season, Tümer Metin won the Turkish championship ( 2003 ) with the black and whites in the club's 100th anniversary , and they also reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup .

In the 2003/04 season, Beşiktaş Istanbul qualified as reigning Turkish champions last season for the UEFA Champions League and made his UEFA Champions League debut against Lazio in September 2003 . In January 2004, Tümer Metin extended his contract early until June 2006, before it would have expired at the end of the season and planned to play here until the end of his career.

In his last season (2005/06) at Beşiktaş Istanbul, he and his team won the Turkish Cup on May 3, 2006, defeating local rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul in the final . Tümer Metin played a key role in winning the cup by scoring three goals in seven cup matches. Tümer Metin scored two of them in the cup final, the 1-0 lead and the 3-2 win ( n.V. ) in the 113th minute of the game.

Fenerbahçe Istanbul

Towards the end of May 2006 it was announced that the 31-year-old would move to Fenerbahçe Istanbul for the 2006/07 season on a free transfer and then signed a three-year contract there because his contract at his previous club had expired. With this move to local rivals, he drew the displeasure of Beşiktaş Istanbul and their supporters, because Tümer Metin made statements during his time with the black and white that he would never play for a team in Turkey other than Beşiktaş.

His first competitive game for the yellow-dark blue denied Tümer Metin on July 26, 2006 in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League against B36 Tórshavn and also celebrated his goal debut with his new team. And ten days later in his second competitive game or first league game, he scored his next goal on matchday one against Kayseri Erciyesspor , so Tümer Metin had a great debut. In May 2007 he won the Turkish championship (2007) before Beşiktaş Istanbul in the centenary of Fenerbahçe Istanbul. Thus Tümer Metin is the only football player in the world who was able to celebrate the centenary of a Turkish sports club twice with a football championship.

AE Larisa (loan)

In the first half of the 2007/08 season he was seldom used due to injury in the yellow-dark blues and over time lost his regular place of the previous season on the left wing to the younger Gökçek Vederson and Uğur Boral , so Tümer Metin was in January 2008 for the Loaned to reigning Greek cup winner AE Larisa for the rest of the season . He scored five goals in nine league games there.

Return to Fenerbahçe Istanbul

After his six-month engagement in Greece, Tümer Metin returned and his situation at Fenerbahçe SK worsened. Came in the first half of the 2008/09 season to a competitive appearance in the Turkish Cup and that only for half, he also plagued himself with injuries and had strong competition in the squad.

AE Larisa

In the second half of the 2008/09 season , the 34-year-old moved again to the Greek first division club AE Larisa in February 2009, but this time firmly. He played for Larisa for the next two and a half years, playing 63 league games and scoring 16 goals.

AO Kerkyra

After relegation in 2011 with AE Larisa , Tümer Metin moved to the Greek first division club AO Kerkyra and signed a one-year contract there. For which he made his debut on August 28, 2011 in the game against Panathinaikos Athens by substituting Tümer Metin in the 60th minute of the game. On December 10, 2011, the 37-year-old finally announced that he would end his active career immediately for health reasons.

In the national team

The beginnings

Due to his performance with the reigning league leaders of the Süper Lig Beşiktaş Istanbul, the 28-year-old Tümer Metin was called up by national coach Şenol Güneş in December 2002 for the first time in the Turkish senior team for a friendship tournament in Dubai in January 2003, which Turkey later on canceled their participation. His international debut was thus postponed to February 12, 2003 for the Turkish national team, in a friendly against Ukraine . The next six months he was not considered for the Turkish A selection, so he missed participation in the 2003 FIFA Confed Cup in France .

UEFA Euro 2004 / qualification

In August 2003, Tümer Metin received another appointment to the national team to prove himself. The following month he scored his first goal in his third international match in a 3-0 win in the qualifying game for the 2004 European Championship against Liechtenstein . They qualified as group runner-up in their qualifying group for the relegation games in November 2003, where Tümer Metin was used in both games, although he was not initially planned for the national coach's squad. Tümer Metin was nominated for an injured player in the selection. They narrowly failed against Latvia and missed out on the finals of the UEFA Euro 2004 in Portugal .

In March 2004 after the missed qualification for the European Championship, the contract of national coach Şenol Güneş was terminated, thereupon in the following month under the new national coach Ersun Yanal he was no longer appointed for the Turkish selection.

FIFA World Cup 2006 / Qualification

The 30-year-old Tümer Metin was only nominated again for the national team under the new national coach Fatih Terim , who had been in office since August 2005. In September and October 2005 he scored important goals; in the last three qualifying games of the group stage for the 2006 World Cup, the 2-1 lead against Denmark , the 1-0 win against Ukraine and also the 1-0 win against Albania . They qualified again as group runner-up in their qualifying group for the relegation games in November 2005, where Tümer Metin was also used in both games. Failed again, but this time against Switzerland because of the away goals rule and missed participation in the finals of the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany .

UEFA Euro 2008 / qualification

In the qualifying games for the European Championship in 2008 , Tümer Metin made six appearances and scored one goal each in the victories against Malta and Greece , where he was allowed to play from the start. This time they qualified directly for the finals of the UEFA Euro 2008 in Austria and Switzerland as second in the group .

In May 2008 the 33-year-old was in good shape, so Fatih Terim nominated him for the final squad for the European Championship . In addition, Tümer Metin was one of the oldest, most reliable and constant midfielders in the squad. Tümer Metin came on in the second group stage match against Switzerland and later in the tournament suffered from a groin injury. In addition, he was beaten and weakened as a substitute in the final minutes in the semifinals against Germany . This semi-final game was his last international match for Turkey, after Tümer Metin announced his end of career in the national team.
