Steve Barron (born May 4, 1956 in Dublin , Ireland ) is an Irish director for feature films and music videos and film producer .

Life

Barron, son of British filmmaker Zelda Barron (1929-2006), began making music videos for British new wave bands such as The Jam , Adam & the Ants , The Human League , OMD and Heaven 17 in the late 1970s . In the 1980s he was one of the most successful international music video directors. He shot clips for Toto (Rosanna, Africa ), Tears for Fears (Mad World), Madonna (Burning Up), Michael Jackson ( Billie Jean ), Bryan Adams (This Time, Cuts Like a Knife, Run to You , Heaven , among others , Summer of '69 ), Rod Stewart (Baby Jane), a-ha ( Take On Me , The Sun Always Shines on TV , Hunting High and Low , Cry Wolf, The Living Daylights, Butterfly, Butterfly (The Last Hurray)) , Dire Straits ( Money for Nothing ) and David Bowie (Underground, As the World Falls Down).

He made his first feature film, Electric Dreams , in 1984 , and since the early 1990s Barron has worked primarily as a film and television director. He was nominated for an Emmy and a DGA Award for the miniseries Merlin .

For the music video for Take On Me , he won the directorial award at the 1986 MTV Video Music Awards .
