Electric Dreams is a 1984 American-British comedy / romance drama . It was directed by video clip director Steve Barron , who was very successful in the 1980s . Alternative title is love at first bit . TV title was computer dreams . The film opened in German cinemas on November 16, 1984.

Shy architect Miles Harding buys a computer that he hopes will help him manage his jumbled life. Miles, however, is not familiar with computers. After overloading his new achievement and trying to extinguish the resulting fire with champagne, the pc becomes conscious and communicates with Miles. After initial doubts, Miles accepts this and even befriends Edgar , as the computer is now called.
This “friendship” goes on until the cellist Madeline Robistat moves into the apartment next door. Miles falls in love with his new neighbor, as does Edgar , who is left alone by working Miles during the day. After Miles and Edgar rival Madeline for a long time, Miles eventually wins her for himself. Edgar realizes that as a computer he has no chance of winning Madeline over. It sends a surge of electricity around the world and thus destroys itself when it reaches it again.

The film flopped at the box office. In total, he grossed around 2.2 million US dollars in the USA. The lexicon of international film described the film as "entertainment that is sophisticated in terms of production, but meaningless in terms of content."
background
- The dubbing voice for Edgar was Stephan Remmler (singer of the NDW band Trio ) in the German version . For later TV broadcasts, the film was completely re-dubbed with other speakers.
- The soundtrack was played by popular artists from 1984, including Culture Club and Jeff Lynne . The title track was composed by Giorgio Moroder . As a singer was Philip Oakey , lead singer of the New Wave band Human League , are obtained.
- Giorgio Moroder made a cameo towards the end of the film as the operator of a radio station.
