Philip Oakey (born October 2, 1955 in Sheffield , England ) is a British musician who became known as the lead singer of the group The Human League .

Live and act

When Oakey joined the band, his actual role was not defined, only the lyrics for Being Boiled solidified his position. Before the first record was made in the summer of 1978, singer Adi Newton dropped out and Oakey took over the vocal part. Oakey's asymmetrical haircut - one half short, the other almost shoulder length - pioneered the evolution of hairstyles in the 1980s. By the middle of the decade, asymmetrical haircuts had become hugely popular, with Oakey's being referred to as perhaps the worst haircut of all .

In collaboration with Giorgio Moroder , Oakey's best-known song followed in 1984, Together in electric dreams , which climbed to number 3 in the UK charts and was awarded a gold record . The successor single Goodbye Bad Times only reached number 44 in 1985, the joint LP Chrome rose to number 52 in the UK charts.
