Romantic? is the sixth studio album by the British synth-pop band The Human League . It is the last album that the band released on Virgin Records .
History of origin
After Philip Adrian Wright and Ian Burden left, only the vocal trio Oakey, Sulley and Catherall remained. The band strengthened themselves with keyboardist Neil Sutton and guitarist Russell Dennet and went back to Martin Rushent to record new material in his Genetic Sound Studio. Jo Callis, who had left the band while recording for Hysteria , also helped with the recording . With Let's Get Together Again , the sixth studio album again featured a cover version, this time one of the Glitter Band . The released single Heart Like a Wheel was written by The Rezillos colleagues Jo Callis and Eugene Reynolds (Alan Forbes) and produced by Martin Rushent.
Publication and chart success
The album could only place itself in the British album charts. It reached number 24 there in September 1990 and lasted for 2 weeks. The single Heart Like a Wheel , which was released , received only mediocre hit parade placements : in the British single charts it reached number 29 with 5 weeks chart presence, in the German single charts number 36 and 13 weeks and in the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1990 number 32. The second single release Soundtrack to a Generation did not reach the top 75 of the British singles chart at number 77.
reception
William Ruhlmann reviewed the album for the Allmusic music database . He comes to the conclusion that although some titles exude a bit of verve, especially when the two singers come to the fore, they are well-known, that one has seen earlier and better.
