Dominique Rijpma van Hulst (born September 7, 1981 in Valkenswaard near Eindhoven ), stage name Do , is a Dutch singer .

Life

Dominique started playing tennis at the age of three. After her parents divorced, her mother married a well-known tennis coach. A successful tennis career was not achieved due to many serious injuries, which is why she changed her goal at the age of 15 and wanted to become a singer. Her first appearance earned her a recording deal, and in no time she was supporting Five and Montell Jordan . Nevertheless, the chart success failed in the early years.

Her breakthrough came in 2001/2002 when she and DJ Sammy and Yanou released a remake of Bryan Adams' 1984 number 1 hit Heaven . This time the song was again a number 1 hit, this time in Great Britain , but also in the USA and Germany they reached the top 10 of the charts.

For this she was also awarded a World Music Award for the most successful Dutch performer.

At the beginning of 2004 she then sang the title Voorbij in a duet with the Dutch star Marco Borsato and she finished first in the Netherlands for three weeks. She was able to build on this success in her home country with her debut album Do , which was released in the same year. The album itself reached number three on the charts, and it had three top 10 hits with Love Is Killing Me , Angel by My Side and the Christmas hit Everyday Is Christmas .

She was involved in another Dutch number 1 hit in 2005, when a number of artists joined forces as Artiesten voor Azië for a benefit single for the victims of the tsunami disaster in the Indian Ocean .

In the Netherlands she became an established artist, which she demonstrated in 2006 with the top 10 album Follow Me ; internationally it could no longer build on the success of Heaven .

On July 7, 2007, Do married her boyfriend at the time, Marc Verschoor, with whom she had had a relationship since 2003. They separated in May 2010, but reunited in 2012. Van Hulst gave birth to their son on January 2, 2014.

On February 4, 2015, after a long break, van Hulst released her album Uncovered - Studio Sessions. From February 7th to April 17th, 2015 she was on a theater tour of the Netherlands with the album.
