Kylie Minogue is the fifth studio album by Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue , released in 1994. It is not to be confused with their later album Impossible Princess from 1998, which was alsomarketedin Europe under the name Kylie Minogue .

The album is the first record that Minogue released on their new record label Deconstruction after ending their collaboration with Stock Aitken Waterman .

Information about the album

In Great Britain, the album was in the charts at number 4 and sold a total of more than 110,000 copies and the album sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide. Confide In Me was the most successful single from Kylie Minogue at number 2 in the British charts and stayed at number 1 in Australia for four weeks. In Germany, however, the album did not make it into the charts.

Minogue picked herself the producers and songwriters she wanted to work with to grow her fan base and establish herself as an artist. The first recordings for the album took place in 1993 and included two songs with St. Etienne and eight songs written by Minogue with the Rapino Brothers. However, those songs were rejected by the record company as a step in the wrong direction, leaving 16 more songs - six with Brothers in Rhythm , four with Jimmy Harry, three with Gerry DeVeaux, two with Pete Heller and Terry Farley, and one with M People - recorded and two of the recordings with the Rapino Brothers from Brothers In Rhythm were re-recorded. The Pet Shop Boys also sent Minogue a demo song that they had written especially for them. The song Falling was completely reworked, however, as it was more based on the style of Minogue's old record label PWL , which was not aimed at for the album. The demo version sung by the Pet Shop Boys was released years later on the special edition of the album Very . Many music critics praised Minogue for the daring move and direction of the songs, but described the album as disappointing and inconsistent.

On the black and white record cover, Minogue wears a dark suit and large horn-rimmed glasses to distance herself from her earlier image as a provocative vamp and to draw attention to her creative side. This was seen as an odd decision by many critics as the three singles videos are among the most revealing of their careers.

The album was remixed in 2003 and reissued on a bonus CD with some previously unreleased material.

Singles

In August 1994, the single Confide In Me was released. The single contains as B-side u. a. a cover version of Prefab Sprout's If You Don't Love Me . Confide In Me became Minogue's most successful single release in the 1990s.

The follow-up single to Confide In Me was originally Where Is The Feeling? intended, but this has been deferred in favor of Put Yourself In My Place . In the video for Put Yourself In My Place , Minogue interprets the weightless striptease from the opening scene of the cult film Barbarella . After the release in November 1994 and placed Put Yourself In My Place in both Australia and Great Britain at number 11 in the singles charts.

Where is the feeling? was, caused by Minogue's involvement in the filming of Biodome , only released in July 1995 as the third release from the album. The single was able to position itself at number 16 in the British and number 31 in the Australian charts. Where is the feeling? is considered one of the least commercially oriented Minogue singles because the single mix with its whispered and spoken voice recordings was not very radio friendly.

Another single, If I Was Your Lover was planned. The track recorded with Jimmy Harry was remixed for the album release in order to release it in the USA . Had it been successful, it would have been released as a single in Great Britain. However, since Minogue's record deal in the USA fell through, it was no longer released. The song Time Will Pass You By should be released in October 1995 as the fourth single, but was postponed by the release of Where the Wild Roses Grow , a duet with Nick Cave .
