Christopher "Chris" Sean Lowe (born October 4, 1959 in Blackpool , Lancashire ) is a British musician and record producer . Together with Neil Tennant, he forms the Pet Shop Boys .

life and career

Chris Lowe grew up in Blackpool and attended the Arnold School there. From 1976 to 1978, Lowe, who comes from a family of musicians, played the trombone in the seven-piece band "One Under the Eight," which performed nostalgic entertainment songs. From 1978 he began studying architecture at Liverpool University . 1981 to 1982 he spent a practical year in architecture in London , where he designed, for example, a staircase for an industrial building in Milton Keynes . "Not a remarkable staircase, but a functional one," as he stated during a visit in 1988.

On August 19, 1981, he met Neil Tennant in an electronics store on London's King's Road . A shared interest in dance music led to the formation of a band called the West End , later renamed the Pet Shop Boys . At concerts he usually stands at the keyboard and stays in the background, but he was also heard as a singer in some of the group's songs, such as Paninero . Occasionally Lowe also worked on music projects outside of the Pet Shop Boys. As an avid Arsenal fan, he wrote and produced the song Do the Right Thing in 1993, which was sung by then Arsenal star Ian Wright .

His trademarks include mostly unobtrusive, minimalist interaction at public appearances and concerts, also supported by sunglasses and headgear. With his appearance Lowe wanted to deliberately distance himself from the exaggerated joviality of other pop musicians in the 1980s. Lowe lives in London and for several years also in Berlin .
