Introspective is the third studio album of Pet Shop Boys . It was released in October 1988 and is considered the band's second best-selling album. It reached in Germany 3rd place and in the UK # 2 on the charts.
history
In contrast to the previous albums, the Pet Shop Boys released quite long pieces with a length of six to nine minutes on Introspective . The single releases for the album were shorter and more radio-friendly mixes of the songs. Only two tracks were immediately written for the album: Left to My Own Devices and Domino Dancing . Always on My Mind and It's Alright are cover versions, I Want a Dog already appeared as a B-side of the single rent , I'm Not Scared is the own version of the Pet Shop Boys a song that they for Patsy Kensits pop band Eighth Wonder had written . On the album, Tennant and Lowe worked with stylistic means that were currently in vogue; so they used Latin and House borrowings.
reception
Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote in his four-star review on Allmusic : "Nevertheless, the mixes are more compelling than the remixes on Disco , and the songs include several of their best numbers ..."
