Nightlife is the seventh studio album by the Pet Shop Boys . It was published by Parlophone in October 1999 . It reached in Germany No. 2 and in the UK 7 of the charts place.

history

After the Pet Shop Boys released their previous album Bilingual , they worked with writer Jonathan Harvey on the musical Closer to Heaven , which finally premiered in May 2001 at the Arts Theater in London . Pieces from this period were released as a concept album under the title Nightlife . The musical also had this working title in parts.

With In Denial , a duet with Kylie Minogue was included, in a phase in which Minogue was less successful. The Pet Shop Boys had already written a piece for her for the album Kylie Minogue in 1994. In 2000, Minogue signed with Parlophone.

reception

Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic wrote that the album was “less than the sum of its parts”: “Repeated lists reveal the songs' charms, yet Nightlife coasts on its craft a bit too much, which makes it feel like one of their second-tier albums. "
