SXTN (pronounced sɪkstn , also sometimes spelled in songs) was a German hip-hop - duo from Berlin, consisting of the rappers Juju and Nura . They founded the duo in 2014 and polarized with their often provocative texts. From 2018 both members concentrated more on solo projects, which led to the separation of the duo in April 2019.
Band history
Juju was born in Berlin as the daughter of a Moroccan and a German and grew up there with her mother. Nura was born the daughter of a Saudi and an Eritrean in Kuwait City and came to Germany as a refugee with her mother and three siblings as a three-year-old from Saudi Arabia, where she first lived in Wuppertal and moved to Berlin at the age of 18. Both got to know each other in modest circumstances in the federal capital . While Juju had mostly rapped with friends, Nura already gained band and stage experience with The toten Crack Whores in the trunk and with the Berlin pub choir . They then founded the duo SXTN in 2014. Even before the release of their EP in 2016, they became known in the underground . SXTN performed at some festivals after releasing some tracks on YouTube along with arrest warrant . Juju also released the track Berliner Schnauze together with Said . The duo stands with his provocative lyrics at JINX Music signed and published in April 2016 his first extended play Asozialisierungsprogramm that about Spike management in the distribution of soul food appeared. Appearances on public radio , especially in documentaries, as well as interviews in various newspapers by the two Berliners on gangster rap and their migration background also made the duo known to a mainstream audience.
Her debut album Leben am Limit was released on June 2, 2017 and reached number 8 in the German charts.
On October 31, 2018, Juju announced in her Instagram story that both of them have not been in contact for some time due to their solo careers. However, no separation of the duo was officially announced. As a statement, Juju released the following:
“Because so EXTREME many have asked, I'll be honest with you. Nura and I haven't been in contact for a long time and even in summer we only went to festivals together and during the week everyone did their own thing. I want to focus on my own music now. I finally found a nice studio and started my album. I celebrate everything that Nura has cut out so far in terms of songs and I wish her that she continues to be successful and do her thing! "
In April 2019 Nura announced that she no longer wanted to work musically with her former bandmate in the future. Juju also confirmed the separation in May 2019.
Music and lyrics
SXTN use provocative texts that belong to the Battlerap . Her pithy language as well as the coarse language used by male representatives of the genre shape her style. For example, the track Your mother contains the line: “I fuck your mother without a tail” . They play with male clichés throughout. Influences come from gynecologist , Bushido , Kool Savas , MC Bomber and King Orgasmus One , among others . For their music they fall back on the self-image of American rappers such as Queen Latifah and Roxanne Shanté . For the track Hass Frau they took a sample by Alice Schwarzer from the Maischberger talk show , in which she quotes King Orgasmus One, and used this beat as a hook . For the track Ich bin schwarz they took over the musical design of the pop singer Markus with the song I want fun . Initially referred to as modern tic tac toe , today they are more the feminine answer to duos like Die Atzen (Frauenarzt and Manny Marc ). In their video clip for the song Von Party zu Party , which was released in 2017, SXTN quote the American writer Hunter S. Thompson with the prefix “It never got weird enough for me”.
Thematically, her texts revolve around prostitution and venereal diseases (Made 4 Love), bullying and lack of perspective (school), racism (I'm black), partying (from party to party, pussies in the club), drugs (bong room, so high, party victims , I don't have a lighter), gender roles (undressing, hate woman, he wants sex, fresh meat, your mother, stand, the pussies are back) as well as the gap between rich and poor (howl, no money, suburban boy, we are peaceful ).
