CocoRosie is an American music group founded in 2003 , consisting of the sisters Sierra and Bianca Casady . Sierra plays the guitar and harp and does part of the vocals , Bianca is a singer and plays the flute. They are supported by various musicians, such as B. the beatboxers TEZ and Spleen, the pianist Gael Rakotondrabe, and Antony Hegarty or Devendra Banhart .

Sierra, the older sister, was born in Iowa and named "Rosie" by her mother.
Bianca, born in Hawaii , was called "Coco". The mother, teacher and artist, moved with the children from one state to the next. Her father traveled the United States as a preacher.
When the daughters were five and three years old, the parents divorced. At the age of 14, Sierra went to boarding school . Then the two sisters lost sight of each other. In 2000 Sierra moved to Paris to study singing at the Paris Conservatory . Bianca studied linguistics and sociology.
In 2003 Bianca started a world tour. She visited her sister in Paris after they had not seen each other for more than ten years. As a result, the first album La Maison de Mon Rêve was created as a joint work . At the time, the album was not yet planned for release, but in 2004 it was released by the independent label Touch and Go Records .
Bianca and Sierra Casady live together in Paris. Sierra has founded a new band with a friend, Matteah Baim, under the name Metallic Falcons , which is under contract to the label Voodoo Eros Records , founded by Bianca . Bianca is also active as a visual artist and designed some covers and posters for CocoRosie.
In 2012 CocoRosie curated a weekend of the Danube Festival (Krems / Austria) under the motto “Expulsion into Paradise” . In addition to performances by numerous musicians from their environment (Antony Hegarty, Diane Cluck, Nomi, Rajasthan Roots, tez ...), CocoRosie also presented their own new projects with the ballet Nightshift (Bianca) and the “Popera” Soul Life (Sierra).
In 2015 her sixth album Heartache City was released on her newly founded label Lost Girl Records.
style
Her music is a mixture of electronic samples , classical singing and distorted, childlike singing by Bianca and combines traditional song patterns and instrumentation with electronic music, opera. CocoRosie uses unusual “instruments” such as a popcorn machine , children's toys or a hairdryer .
The lyrics to the music, which is often naive and childlike, are often feminist or politically motivated. CocoRosie is ascribed a special feeling for language and symbolism .
