Mavi Phoenix
Mavi Phoenix (* 1. September 1995 in Linz as Marlene Nader ) is an Austrian pop musician and rapper . After several nominations from 2017 onwards, Phoenix won the " FM4 Award" at the 2019 Amadeus Awards .
Mavi Phoenix has been using the masculine pronoun er since autumn 2019, officially lives as a man and is addressed as Marlon in addition to his stage name Mavi .
Life
Marlon Nader was born in 1995 in Linz, Upper Austria . The maternal grandfather came to Vienna as a refugee from Syria in the 1970s . Nader attended an English-language kindergarten and then an English-language elementary school.
After enthusiastic viewing of MTV , Nader began composing music using GarageBand software at the age of eleven and won the state-wide music competition Lautstark! In June 2013 . The self-chosen stage name "Mavi Phoenix" - chosen based on the actor River Phoenix (1970–1993), who died young - should symbolize a new beginning. After graduating from high school in 2015, he moved to Vienna with a view to pursuing a music career and began studying political science .
Musical creation
Musically, Mavi Phoenix moves between lo-fi pop , trap and modern R&B with a touch of electro . The courier judged that he sang in accent-free English to contemporary beats with catchy melodies. A special characteristic is its auto-tune- affine sound, which is mainly expressed in its voice , which has been post-processed using Virtual Studio Technology . Musical role models include rappers like Left Boy , Kanye West , Drake and Tyler, the Creator, as well as pop singers Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga . His own work has already been compared with that of alternative world star MIA .
Mavi's first EP called My Fault was made with the help of Left Boy producer Simon Herzog, and the six songs were released as free downloads in August 2014. As a result, the radio station FM4 became aware of Mavi and gave the first single Green Queen considerable airplay . Even before leaving school, Bilderbuch signed the newcomer to support their tour through Germany , Austria and Switzerland . Mavi achieved a preliminary breakthrough in 2016 with the single Quiet , which occupied number one and number two in the annual FM4 charts for weeks. The song is a statement against the volume of our time ( Make the world go quiet: "Bring the world to silence") and received a video that was produced in Berlin , including in Treptower Park . The US magazine The Fader described Mavi (at the time) as an "adorable lo-fi heroine". The second EP Young Prophet was released in spring 2017 on their own label LLT Records and was co-produced by DJ Alex the Flipper. Mavi accompanied Milky Chance as a support act on their European tour at the beginning of 2020.
