Giant Rooks is a German indie pop band from Hamm that was founded in 2014. In 2019 they were awarded the 1LIVE-Krone promotion prize and the prize for pop culture in the Most Hopeful Newcomer category. On August 28, 2020, the band released their debut album Rookery.
history
The band was founded in 2014 by cousins Frederik Rabe (vocals, guitar , percussion ) and Finn Schwieters (guitar) as well as Jonathan Wischniowski ( synthesizer , piano ), shortly afterwards bassist Luca Göttner and drummer Finn Thomas joined them. The band released their first EP, The Times Are Bursting The Lines , in late 2015 . At that time some of the band members were still attending the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium in Hamm. In 2016 they were on tour as the opening act with Razz , Kraftklub , Von Wegen Lisbeth and The Temper Trap and played at various festivals in the summer. They also won the 2016 popNRW Prize for Newcomers and were nominated shortly afterwards for the New Music Award of the youth stations of the ARD radio programs , where they came in third.
Another EP called New Estate followed in 2017 , which earned them the first positive reviews and a growing fan base. The release was supported by hundreds of shows across Europe and eventually earned them a record deal with Irrsinn Tonträger ( Universal Music ).
In 2019 the EP Wild Stare was released, which was streamed 50 million times worldwide shortly after its release. In December 2019 the music of Giant Rooks could be heard in Tatort: Ricochets with Wotan Wilke Möhring . Her debut album Rookery was released on August 28, 2020 .
