The Prize for Pop Culture is a German music prize that is awarded by the non-profit association for the promotion of pop culture . It is a jury award, the aim of which is to promote the popularity of artists who are not in the limelight in other revenue and sales-oriented awards. The prize is intended to represent an alternative to the conventional music prizes in Germany and wants to convince with more fairness , talent and transparency .

description

The price for pop culture arose from the idea of establishing a price for the award of which commercial success is just as irrelevant as relationships or industrial ties. Since 2016, the Prize for Pop Culture has been awarded annually for outstanding merits and achievements in various areas of pop culture. Transparency, democratic structures and total traceability are essential concerns of the prize for pop culture . Behind the prize is the Association for the Promotion of Pop Culture eV, which was primarily founded to ensure the implementation and preparation of the awards, but also sees itself as an interface and sponsorship association for innovative pop-cultural projects. The association is mainly financed from the contributions of its members. The board works on a voluntary basis, any surpluses are used to specifically promote pop culture projects. Before the award ceremony, a broad jury of experts, currently consisting of over 800 members (as of 2017: 650 members) of the organizing association for the promotion of pop culture, decides on the winners of the award. The winners will be determined through two selection processes. First, in the first round - under notarial supervision - five nominees are determined for each category. Each jury member creates a list of the most important publications of the past year for each category. The nominees are selected from the five most frequently mentioned musicians. All musicians who live and work in Germany are available for selection. In the second round, the final winners will be determined from the nominees. In order to cover a broad spectrum, the specialist jury includes club owners, executives from major labels , musicians , promoters , radio journalists and editors-in-chief . When selecting the jury members, care was taken to ensure that no company had more than seven percent of the members.
